Summer School of Croatian Language and Culture "Faust Vrančić" on the island of Prvić

June 25th, 2019 – For the sixth year in a row, a Summer School of Croatian Language and Culture was organized by the Matica Hrvatska Osijek under the auspices of the Đakovo-Osijek Archdiocese and the Osijek-Baranja County on the island of Prvić. Everyone was accommodated in the former monastery in Prvić Luka, near the church where Faust Vrančić was buried, where all the lectures also took place. The program was held in the Memorial Center “Faust Vrančić”, and the fieldwork and educational-excursion programs were held in Šibenik, Zlarin and on the island of Tijat.

A series of lectures and six creative workshops – language, media, speech, glagolitic, stage-drama and technical – were held for high school students from Osijek and Orašje and high school students from Široki Brijeg from 23rd to 30th of June. Students attended numerous artistic, communication, social and technical skills, met local culture, expanded their knowledge of Croatian cultural heritage, and especially the creative and research approaches to this year’s school theme: Stories and storytelling. In the evening hours film screenings were organized, and afternoons were free for swimming and summer fun.

The head of the summer school was Ružica Pšihistal, and partners were Fra Dominik Mandić Gymnasium from Široki Brijeg, Construction-geodetic school from Osijek and Fra Martin Nedić School Center from Orašje.
